Development theories and paradigms and their applicability in tourism: the need for a new paradigm -- Degrowth alternatives in tourism -- Limits to growth, social movements and the main principles of degrowth-inspired travelling -- Alternative travel lifestyles, degrowth and freedom-seeking -- Impacts of degrowth in tourism -- Moving towards degrowth-inspired travelling.
Résumé : The overall purpose of this book is to familiarize readers with the emergent research paradigm of degrowth by looking at it as an alternative to the classic models of development and by exploring and applying the concept of degrowth in a tourism context. The book has seven chapters, which explore: previous development theories applied in tourism, compared with the degrowth paradigm; the various degrowth alternatives in tourism; the main principles of degrowth-inspired travelling; alternative travel lifestyles and travel freedom; the impacts (economic, sociocultural and environmental) of degrowth compared to mass tourism; and a model of degrowth-induced tourism development.
