Résumé : This book provides an overview of the cruise industry covering a broad range of topics and issues. It has been written for a broad audience including students pursuing university and training programmes, tourism industry professionals, planners and managers in the cruise industry, and finally government agency employees. The book is organized into seven parts. Part 1 introduces the industry and some of its fundamental principles including economics, corporate social responsibility, passengers' health and wellbeing, and the relationship between academic research and professional practice on the subject. Part 2 focuses on the cruise experience, that is, cruise passengers and crew. Part 3 explores markets, marketing and the motivations for cruising. In Part 4, the impacts of cruise ship tourism are investigated through the examination of the social and natural environments. This is complemented by Part 5, which looks at the planning and management for sustainable cruising. Part 6 investigates ports, destinations and infrastructure development including the recent, rapid emergence of cruising in China. Part 7 consists of a single chapter, which brings the topic to a close whilst providing a brief discussion on the future of the industry. The book has 35 chapters and a subject index.
